St. Stephen’s Basilica welcomes visitors every day unless closed for major religious holidays—Easter and Christmas festivities may affect tourism due to special ceremonies, masses, and celebrations. Tour times vary by the location within the basilica (main hall only versus additional areas) and the type of tour chosen. St. Stephen’s Basilica Private tours offer more flexibility and are available during the Basilica’s opening hours: Monday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Sundays from 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM. All tours are subject to availability depending on which of our professional Basilica Tour guides can be booked for the private tour.

Extended Tours and Tour Hours

Extended Tours are 90+ minutes with 1 hour Live Guided Tour, followed by a self exploration of the Tower and the Treasury (approx. 20-40 min depending on the depth of exploration).

Unlike regular Basilica Guided Tours, the Extended Tours offer a visit inside the Tower (approachable by lift or stairs) or the majestic Treasury. While the Extended Tour option includes entrance to church, tower and treasury, the guided tour is only in the Main Church Hall. At the end of the guided tour your Guide will give you tickets to the Tower and Treasury to let you explore further the Basilica on your own. The Extended Tour is not suitable for wheelchair users.

Public vs Private Tour Hours: Flexible Tours

Budapest Basilica Tours offers several tour categories to cater to diverse visitor needs. The Public Tour of the Church features a 60-minute guided tour inside the church (1-hour duration) without entry to the Tower or Treasury. The Extended Public Tour with Tower and Treasury Ticket includes access to the Main Church Hall, the Tower, and the Treasury; the guided segment is confined to the church, with independent visits to the other areas afterward (1.5 hours, not suitable for wheelchair users).

For groups requiring accessibility, the Private Tour of the Church is limited mobility and wheelchair friendly, providing a 45-minute guided experience inside the church without the tower and treasury (1-hour duration).

Alternatively, the Private Tour with Church, Tower, and Treasury offers an exclusive guided experience covering all areas (1.5 hours, not suitable for wheelchair users).
